Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level examination that assesses candidates on undergraduate-level subjects in Engineering, Technology, Science, Commerce, Arts, Architecture and Humanities. GATE 2026 is conducted by IISc and all IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. IIT Guwahati is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2026.

• GATE 2026 has 30 test papers comprising full and sectional papers

• A new sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-I) is introduced in the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper

• A candidate can appear for one or two test papers; only selected two-paper combinations are allowed

• The GATE score remains valid for three years from the date of announcement of results

Candidates currently studying in the 3rd or higher year of any undergraduate ° programme, or who have completed a government-approved ° programme in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities, are eligible to appear for GATE 2026. Candidates pursuing or holding a higher ° than the qualifying ° are also allowed to appear. Candidates with a qualifying ° from outside India must be in the 3rd or higher year, or must have completed a Bachelor's ° of at least three years duration.

• B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm. — currently in the 3rd year or higher, or completed

• B.Arch. (5 years) / Naval Architecture (4 years) / Planning (4 years) — 3rd year or higher, or completed

• B.Sc. (Research)/B.S. — 3rd year or higher, or completed

• Pharm. D. (after 10+2) — 3rd to 6th year, or completed

• M.B.B.S./B.D.S./B.V.Sc. — 5th, 6th, 7th or higher semester, or completed

• M.Sc./M.A./MCA or equivalent — 1st year or higher, or completed

• B.Sc./B.A./B.Com. (3-year programme) — 3rd year, or completed

• Professional Society examinations recognised by MoE/UPSC/AICTE as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch. — Section A or equivalent completed
