National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG)

NEET (UG) is conducted by the National Testing Agency as the single, uniform entrance test for admission to undergraduate medical education in India. It is the qualifying entrance examination for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS courses, and for MBBS admission in AIIMS and JIPMER. NTA's responsibility is limited to inviting applications, conducting the test, declaring the result and providing the All India Rank to the Directorate General of Health Services.

A candidate must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31 December of the year of admission. There is no upper age limit, as communicated by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (Letter No. U-11022/2/2022-UGMEB dated 09 March 2022).

Candidates must have passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology along with English. Candidates awaiting their Class 12 result may apply and appear, but are not eligible for admission if they have not passed the qualifying examination by the first round of counselling. Candidates who studied the requisite subjects as additional subjects after passing Class 12 from a recognised board are also permitted to appear.

The NEET (UG) - 2026 question paper covers Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology). It has 180 compulsory questions to be attempted in 180 minutes. All questions are multiple choice with four options and a single correct or best answer.

• Physics — 45 questions, 180 marks

• Chemistry — 45 questions, 180 marks

• Biology (Botany and Zoology) — 90 questions, 360 marks

• Total — 180 questions, 720 marks, 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM

• Correct or most appropriate answer: +4 marks

• Any incorrect option marked: -1 mark

• Unanswered question: 0 marks

• If more than one option is found correct, +4 marks are awarded to candidates who marked any of the correct options

• If a question is dropped or found wrong, +4 marks are awarded to all candidates who appeared

NEET (UG) - 2026 is a single day, single shift examination in pen and paper mode, as conducted in 2025. The duration of the test is three hours. PwD/PwBD candidates with a physical limitation to write are given one hour of compensatory time, whether or not they use a scribe.

NEET (UG) - 2026 is conducted in 13 mediums: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Candidates opting for English receive an English-only booklet; Hindi and regional-language candidates receive a bilingual booklet with English. The medium once chosen cannot be changed, and the English version is treated as final in case of ambiguity.
